How Newspaper Works
The research, sourcing, validation, AI, and editorial limits behind Newspaper.
Neutrality is the goal
Newspaper aims for nonpartisan, fact-first summaries. That means separating verified fact from allegation, analysis, advocacy, and opinion; avoiding loaded language and selective omission; and showing material credible disagreement. No model, editor, or source can guarantee perfect neutrality, so the direct evidence and correction path stay visible.
Three-source minimum
Every new story requires three or four direct source pages from at least three domains. Material facts must appear in two independent sources, or in primary evidence plus independent corroboration. Politically or socially disputed stories must consult meaningfully different credible viewpoints without creating false balance against strong evidence.
Independent audit
After research and drafting, a separate standards pass checks factual support, source independence, date boundaries, loaded framing, disguised opinion, and misleading omissions. Confirmed dead links, concentrated source sets, failed fact checks, or material balance concerns reject the candidate rather than weakening the standard.
One day at a time
Global Newspapers cover the previous calendar day using America/New_York as the reporting boundary. Later reporting may verify what happened but cannot silently import later developments. Local Newspapers use the location and local timezone identified only after a reader requests one.
Sources remain authoritative
Newspaper is a research and synthesis product, not an original reporting organization. Primary documents and linked publishers remain the sources of record. Source-type and perspective labels are internal aids, not declarations that any outlet is objectively neutral.
Image policy
Publisher photographs are not copied merely because an article is being summarized. Images may be introduced only when each file has documented public-domain status, a compatible open license with complete attribution, or direct permission. Until that rights ledger exists, the publication remains typography-first.
